Sandro
Musto.

Building software.
Growing the people behind it.

I'm Alessandro, usually Sandro. I lead engineers, work through technical tradeoffs, and turn product priorities into reliable software. My work spans the full stack, with a business perspective that started in finance.

People & prioritiesTeam leadership

Give people ownership.
Keep the direction clear.

I help engineers build ownership, work independently, and raise the quality of what they deliver. Regular 1:1s, feedback, and conversations about career goals are part of that work.

Developing and hiring engineers

I combine technical coaching with performance reviews and team OKRs, connecting individual development with the work ahead. As a Staff Engineer, I also owned hiring, from résumé screens and interviews through final decisions.

Turning priorities into a delivery plan

I work with product, delivery, and engineering leaders on roadmap priorities, estimates, and dependencies. I bring the technical tradeoffs into those conversations, then help the team break larger initiatives into work we can ship incrementally.

As scrum master, I run sprint planning and the team's agile ceremonies, keeping the plan connected to the day-to-day engineering work.

Tools & learningApplied AI

Better tools.
Stronger engineering habits.

I've built internal AI tools for code review and framework upgrades. As part of Amwell's AI champions group, I also teach engineers how to bring AI tools into day-to-day development.

  • 01
    Merge-request review

Automated reviews in GitLab, built with Amazon Bedrock and Strands.

  • 02
    Angular upgrades

Deterministic Python steps combined with AI-assisted debugging and troubleshooting.

Work in progress

I'm building software-development lifecycle automation that takes a bug or feature from intake through proposal review and implementation, with human review steps along the way.

I'm also working on automated CVE triage and dependency remediation. Both projects are still in development.

Hands-on across
the whole stack.

At Amwell, I lead three engineers and a QA engineer. Our ownership runs from databases and Node.js APIs to web and mobile apps and SDKs.

Architecture & integration

I guide design decisions across services, data, and client applications. My work includes API design, SQL databases, SDK development, and mobile authentication with Auth0 and OAuth 2.0/OIDC.

Build & release

I've built CI/CD pipelines with GitLab, fastlane, and AWS, and managed releases through Apple and Google stores. The delivery path is part of the engineering work.

Reliability & response

I own reliability, on-call, and incident response for the team's services and apps. That responsibility continues after release, alongside ongoing feature delivery.

AmwellDelivery at scale

A coordinated transition.
More than a million users.

As Staff Engineer and technical lead for six engineers, I led the flagship app's move from native iOS and Android to Flutter. It brought together architecture, hands-on development, new delivery pipelines, and an aggressive client go-live timeline.

Technical leadershipFlutter / DartCI/CD
From rewrite to release

The team delivered the rewritten app to the App Store and Google Play, migrating more than one million users to the new platform. We also built the CI/CD pipelines needed to support the new application.

My role combined technical direction and implementation with helping six engineers deliver the transition together.

Delivery across the portfolio

I partner with DevOps to manage delivery across 50+ white-label iOS and Android applications using multi-tenant CI/CD pipelines.

Modernizing legacy mobile apps

In a separate legacy mobile initiative, I planned and led an architecture modernization that reduced the native codebase requiring maintenance by approximately 70%.

02 / The path so far

From client goals
to software decisions.

My career started in finance, understanding client goals, evaluating options, and explaining consequential decisions. I moved into software in 2016. That business perspective sits alongside the technical experience I've built as a developer, technical lead, Staff Engineer, and manager.

Financial Advisor / Analyst Mar 2010 — Jul 2016

Started on the trading desk, then became a financial advisor. I translated client goals into customized portfolios for a book of business with over $1B in assets, evaluated investments through due diligence, and monitored portfolios. I also tested internal and external software to improve how the practice worked.
